Tony Romo 5 Interceptions Gets Crushed With A Cake
One of those rough nights. His first interception came on a quick throw to a spot in the left flat, but intended wide receiver Dez Bryant wasn't on the same page.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Those 30-something defenders for the Chicago Bears showed Tony Romo how much they can still play.
Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman, two of the five defensive starters for Chicago in their 30s, returned interceptions for touchdowns, and the Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys, 34-18, Monday night.
Though Romo was only sacked once, on the Cowboys’ opening series, he was pressured relentlessly and threw five interceptions. That matched his career high, set five years ago in his first full season as a starter.
‘‘Just outstanding play by our defense,’’ Bears coach Lovie Smith said after his team improved to 3-1. ‘‘Seems like everybody had a say. Those were all good plays.’’
One year ago, Tony Romo stood in front of the assembled media after he was intercepted three times and saw two returned for touchdowns in a 34-30 loss to Detroit at Cowboys Stadium and promised to get better. Tony Romo is not the problem so don’t even start with blaming this loss all on him. The Cowboys quarterback made three mistakes Monday night and that was being careless with the football on the Lance Briggs touchdown return and the two fourth-quarter interceptions. Those plays obviously hurt the Cowboys but they weren’t the sole reason for this loss. Yes, Romo deserves blame, but not all of it.
