Jessica Ridgeway Case: 'Our Focus Has Changed From The Search For Jessica To A Mission Of Justice For Jessica,' Police Say

The search for whoever killed Jessica Ridgeway is heating up, and this weekend is shaping up to be a busy one for at least eight officials who are tirelessly working on the several leads that have come in regarding the girl's murder. Investigators have acknowledged that at least 1,500 tips have come in over the past couple of days regarding the disappearance, murder and dismemberment of the 10-year-old missing Westminster girl. The weeklong search for a 10-year-old Colorado girl became a murder investigation after authorities identified a body found in a suburban Denver park as that of fifth-grader Jessica Ridgeway. "Our focus has changed from the search for Jessica to a mission of justice for Jessica," Westminster Police Chief Lee Birk said Friday. "We recognize there is a predator at large in our community." Anxious parents kept close watch over their children. Fueling the frustration: The FBI again urged residents to report any suspicious activity by people they know. A day after police confirmed a dismembered body found in a park Wednesday was missing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway, her Colorado community came together for a "balloon release" memorial to celebrate her life.
More than 1,000 memorial-goers wore purple (Ridgeway's favorite color) and released purple and green balloons with messages on them at a park in Westminster, Colo. They were also planning to hold a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m.
