Cristiano Ronaldo got three goals as Real Madrid beat Deportivo La Coruna 5-1 yesterday to climb to sixth in Spanish soccer's La Liga. Madrid have fallen 11 points behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga following the Catalan's 3-2 win over Sevilla on Saturday – ahead of El Clasico at the Nou Camp next weekend.
Deportivo, meanwhile, have enjoyed a fairly solid start to the season, securing six points from their opening five matches to occupy 13th spot in the table.
Deportivo enter the match having lost their first game of the season to Sevilla last week. Meanwhile, Madrid overcame cut wires to record a 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Angel di Maria and Pepe also scored for Real after Deportivo took an early lead at Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium. Madrid has 10 points after its second straight league victory, eight less than first-place Barcelona, which two days ago rallied with two late goals to win 3-2 at Sevilla. Barcelona hosts Madrid on Oct. 7.
